Thank yous are easy, the more you do the easier it gets. I started writing thank you notes at the age of 4 with a note to my grandmother for a Christmas gift. Of course, I didn't know that I needed an envelope or an address but I knew how to write a thank you.

The trick, if there is any, is to say how you feel about what someone has done for you or something they have given you. When I was 4 - I probably wrote (since I don't remember) "thank you grama" real short and to the point. The fact that I was cute at 4 probably didn't hurt in the delivery or that I made writing errors or that I did it on my own. None of that mattered. In fact it probably improved upon the words considerably.

Later, I came to realize the value of showing people in everday ways how you appreciate what they say, what they think, what they do. I looked for ways to show appreciation. The basic premise of saying thank you is to show that you are thinking of the other person. It really doesn't matter what you say or how you do it but that you THOUGHT of the other person. The better you get to know the other person the better the thankyou will be and the more power it will have to mean something to them. Even if you are new to the thank you note, personal message etc, the more times you do it the better you will get at it.

IT is an ART to say thank you graciously, subtlely and powerfully. Practice gives you the skill and thinking and feelings gives it meaning. Some people use other people’s word such as poetry or write their own, but you don’t need to be a poet in order to write a thank you note, trust me, everyone likes to be appreciated so just write it simply and directly and the message will come across.
